To get started, you’ll need a few supplies from Party City. You’ll need some balloon ribbon, tape, a gift box or a clear scalloped container, up to 5 gift cards, tissue paper, a giant helium balloon, a balloon weight, and some ribbon.

• 1 Giant helium balloon
• 1 Large clear plastic scalloped container or a gift box
• Tissue paper
• Star balloon weight
• Up to 5 gift cards
• Ribbon
• Tape

How to Create a DIY Mother’s Day Balloon Surprise: A Step-by-Step Guide for a Memorable Gift

DIY Mother’s Day Balloon Surprise INSTRUCTIONS:

1.) Begin by taping a long piece of ribbon to the bottom of the plastic container or gift box. Make sure to tape it in both directions to ensure it stays in place. Then add one piece of tissue paper and push it down into the corners if you use the large clear scalloped container. This keeps the gift a surprise. If you use a gift box there’s no need to add a piece of tissue paper yet.

2.) Next, begin taping 5 gift cards onto the balloon ribbon. Tape the first gift card near the bottom of the balloon where the ribbon starts. Then move down 4 inches and tape the second gift card. Continue taping all five gift cards 4″ apart. Make sure to leave 20″ of balloon ribbon below the last gift card. his will create the “gift card train” that will be attached to the balloon.

2.) Then, take the clear scalloped containers and place the candy into the bottom of one of the containers. You can add up to half the container full of candy. Next, add two sheets of tissue paper over the bottom container and carefully push the top container down over the candy. This will create a layered effect that will be visible through the clear plastic.

3.) Now it’s time to tie the balloon weight so the balloon does not fly away when the surprise is opened. Again, the balloon weight should be tight 20 inches below the last gift card.

4.) Next it’s time to assemble the surprise! Place the balloon weight down into the clear container or gift box. Be sure to place the gift cards directly behind one another in a stack. Then set them down into the clear container or gift box. Next, pull the balloon down until it is flat against the top of the container or gift box. Using the ribbon, tie a bow over the top of the balloon to secure it in place. Tuck a sheet of tissue paper into each side just under the balloon to cover the container/gift box.

5.) Finally, one of the most important steps, test a balloon before you give the gift. Simply untie the ribbon to make sure the balloon goes straight up. If it does not, make sure you used a jumbo/giant-sized balloon, and not a regular-size balloon. The balloon needs to be large enough to hold the weight of the gift cards. Once you’ve tested the balloon, tie it back in place and tuck the tissue paper back in.
