A Home Ready from Day One
Boundless Life apartments are fully furnished and move-in ready. Families don’t need to spend their first days buying supplies or setting up utilities. Every unit includes reliable Wi-Fi, and utilities are included under a fair-use policy, so there are no surprises in your monthly bill.

Home vs Home Plus
Boundless offers two tiers of housing.
- Home: Spacious, fully equipped family apartments with everything you need for daily life.

- Home Plus includes all the essentials of Home, with extras like larger layouts, balconies, outdoor areas, and/or premium views. Cleaning is also twice per week.
For short stays, Home is usually perfect. For longer 3-month cohorts (which we plan to do next), Home Plus may be worth it for the extra comfort and space.
Scurda vs Rumija Apartments
Two of the main buildings used for Boundless families in Kotor are Scurda and Rumija, each with its own advantages.
Scurda is a newly built building with an elevator, located directly above the Education Center (EC). Parents love the convenience, especially for strollers. A fun bonus: many families use baby monitors so kids can sleep upstairs while parents gather downstairs for game night.

Rumija sits above the coworking hub, making it ideal for parents who need quick access to work. While it does not have an elevator, the building has a wide staircase. Our apartment in Rumija is on the top floor and spread across two levels. The lower level has the kitchen, living room, balcony, and half bath, while the upstairs has the bedrooms and full bath. This setup has been perfect for putting the kids to bed upstairs while my husband and I enjoy meza, a glass of wine, or a quiet movie night together downstairs.
Other Boundless apartments in Kotor include the two bedroom standard units like Maganik, Komovi, Rumija 1, Rumija 2, Rumija 3, and Rumija 4. Some of these have spiral staircases, which are not always ideal for toddlers or families with strollers, so it’s worth asking about your specific apartment’s layout before you arrive.
What to Bring that’s Not Included
Even though apartments are well stocked, a few personal items make life easier for families.
- Baby monitor – especially useful in Scurda if parents want to join game nights while keeping an eye on the kids upstairs
- Type E plug adapters for European outlets
- Voltage converter for high-heat appliances like curling irons, straighteners, or travel steamers (note: apartments already include a hair dryer)
- Travel Beach towels – we packed these compact lightweight travel towels for the beach and school. (You can buy full sized beach towels at the mall for about 20 euros each.)
- Water shoes – our kids have worn these everywhere: to the beach, during school water days, swimming, and even on our mountain weekend
- Comfort items – favorite blanket, pillow, or stuffed animal to make the transition feel more like home
- Dramamine (or similar motion sickness medicine) – highly recommended for road trips in Montenegro. The mountain curves are no joke. On our trip to Žabljak, our bus had to stop six times for carsick kids!
What to Buy in Kotor that’s Not Included
Even though Boundless apartments come with starter packs, there are a few essentials we ended up buying once we arrived in Kotor.
- Water bottles – Twice during our stay, the tap water wasn’t safe to drink. The GM always sends an alert in the main Kotor Slack channel when that happens, so check Slack daily.
- Trash bags – both for the kitchen bin and smaller ones for bathroom bins.
- Toilet paper – beyond the starter rolls provided.
- Paper towels – handy for kitchen cleanup.
- Laundry detergent – since our family has allergies, I bought a baby variety of liquid detergent at the grocery store inside the Kamelija Shopping Center.
- Dishwasher detergent – I brought unscented packs from Trader Joe’s, but it’s also available in local stores.
- Dramamine (or motion sickness tablets) – available at the Kamelija Mall pharmacy. Almost every family has needed it at least once, especially on winding mountain drives like the trip to Žabljak, where our bus stopped six times for carsick kids.
- Comfort items for kids – a favorite blanket or stuffed animal from home makes a big difference.
Apartment FAQs
Are pets allowed?
Some apartments are pet-friendly, but not all. A pet fee applies and availability is limited, so check with your family rep before booking.
How reliable is the internet?
Wi-Fi is strong enough for remote work, video calls, and streaming.
Do apartments have outdoor space?
Yes, many do. Scurda has a shared play area where kids can ride borrowed scooters and a playground next to the EC. Rumija has balconies, and Home Plus units often include extra outdoor space.

Is parking available? There are a couple of parking spots available behind the Coworking Hub. There may also be parking available below Scurda/the EC. Ask the GM via Slack to confirm.
Are cleaning supplies included? (starter sets are included, but ongoing items like sponges, dish soap, or extra detergent need to be purchased).
Do apartments have TVs/streaming options? Yes. The televisions are smart TVs, allowing us to access services like HBO Max via login.
Is storage space limited? The closets and cabinets have plenty of space to hang and store clothes.
Any insider tips?
- Ask Marko, the Community Host, if there are any scooters available to borrow during the cohort. Kids leave them just outside the EC to ride daily. You can buy scooters at the kid’s store located on the 3rd floor of the Kamelija Shopping Center as well. We haven’t seen helmets available to buy here, so we would have bought our own if we had known.

- Bring a baby monitor if you’re staying in Scurda or Rumija. Parents often socialize downstairs while kids sleep upstairs, and the monitor makes it stress-free.
Why Boundless Housing Works for Worldschooling Families
For us, the biggest difference with Boundless housing is not just convenience, it is community. Living near other Boundless families means instant playdates, shared meals, and a built-in support system. So instead of feeling isolated in a new country, your neighbors are parents walking the same worldschooling path. More to come on this in my next post!
Surprising things We’ve learned
A few things surprised us after settling into our apartment.
- Ice is not common – if you want it, you need to make your own or order it from someone locally.
- Dryers are rare – most people hang dry clothes, and the washing machines are small, so loads need to be smaller and more frequent.
- Drying space is limited – with one rack, we can only dry a small amount of clothes at a time, so I rotate loads carefully.
These small differences took a little adjustment, but they have also helped us slow down and embrace a simpler rhythm of daily life.
