Who doesn’t love ice cream in the summer? This textured ice cream craft is one to remember, and this kids process art craft turned out even better than I expected! We added real sprinkles per Miss 3.

You can also use recycled cardboard cut into the shape of an ice cream cone. Kids will love this process art.

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Recycled cardboard cut into the shape of an ice cream cone
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Ruler (optional)
  • Glue
  • Small Bowl (We use these small glass prep bowls for most crafts)
  • Food Coloring or Craft Paint
  • Popsicle Stick
  • Cotton Rounds (We picked ours up at Dollar Tree)
  • Marker or Crayon
  • Red Pom Pom

INSTRUCTIONS:

1.) Cut out ice cream cardboard shape.

2.) Trace cardboard cone shape onto construction paper.

3.) Cut out the construction paper cone and decorate.

4.) Glue the decorated paper cone onto the cardboard cone.

5.) Glue a cotton round onto the cardboard ice cream.

6.) Using a popsicle stick, paint the colored (optional) glue over the entire cotton round.

7.) Repeat steps 6 and 7 until the ice cream is covered as desired.

8.) Let the ice cream cone dry. Then paint with your choice color of craft paint. Finally, glue on the red pom pom as the cherry.

10.) Once the ice cream cone is dry, you can turn this into a counting activity with pom poms, numbers and tongs. This will help improve fine motor skills as well as early math skills.
