Lemonade Activity

Today, we chose “Squeeze.” Miss 3 said she wanted to squeeze lemons to make lemonade. It’s hot outside and a cold glass of lemonade sounded wonderful. Therefore, I bought lemons and we made fresh lemonade together. Such a great summer activity!

Instructions:

1.) Set the hand juicer up on a table or in their sensory bin.

2.) Show them how to take a lemon half and push it down over the juicer. Help them turn their hand left and right as they push down so they get used to the motion and feeling.

3.) Allow your child to juice all of the lemons. For smaller kiddos, go back and make sure each lemon half is completely juiced.

4.) Once all the lemons are juiced, it’s time to make lemonade. See the recipe below.

Lemonade Activity Instructions:

1.)  Combine 1 cup of the water and the sugar in a small sauce pan. Bring the mixture to a boil and stir to dissolve sugar completely. Congratulations, you just made simple syrup! Allow the mixture to cool down to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate until chilled.

2.) Remove all seeds from the lemon juice, but leave the pulp if you’d like. In a large pitcher, stir together the cooled simply syrup the remaining 7 cups of cold water, and the lemon juice.

3.) Chill the lemonade, or add ice and enjoy!

Tips: If you don’t like your lemonade overly sweet add 3/4 of the simple syrup and see how it tastes. Continue adding until it’s as sweet as you like it.

Try adding fresh mint for a refreshing flavor.

Strawberry Lemonade: You can add fresh pureed strawberries to create fresh strawberry lemonade.
