Living Fairy Garden

After helping me garden for the last three years, Miss 4 has quite the green thumb. She’s always excited for spring because she knows we get to plant our garden together. This year, she asked if she could plant and create her very own living fairy garden. And of course, I said YES!

Fairy Garden Setup

We went to our local gardening center and she picked out 2 perennials for her living fairy garden planter. She chose “Purple Carpet” and a “Hocus Pocus” groundcover.

The next day, she was anxious to get started. So, I set up a large planter and added the soil halfway up. Then she said she wanted to add the rest of the soil herself. Sounds good to me!

With a little instruction she was able to prep the soil and transplant the perennials herself.

She added some green moss, and her initial fairy garden setup. I loved watching her decorate and design it all by herself.

After several days, I realized that a living fairy garden is a great way to teach children responsibility. She gets up every day to go check on her fairy garden. Occasionally, the fairies leave a surprise for her.

At night, she goes outside to water all the plants including her fairy garden. I couldn’t be more proud. Watch the video below for her full setup.
